The maintenance requirements are no worse than those for any quality machine — they need to be kept clean for optimal performance.

The discs have a barcode which when read, permits each drink to be precisely brewed for optimal flavor. But, if after sampling a disc, a level of customization is needed, there is a manual over-ride to enable a lesser amount stronger coffee or a bigger weaker cup. I made single cup after another without any delay. The water tank is large — 61 ounces — so it doesn’t call for frequent filling.

This was one of my most important features but it could not be yours. The Bosch Tassimo was the only one that has a “stand by” system so the coffee machine goes into stand-by after use, using a lesser amount of electricity but ready to use straight away without heat-up (By instantaneously I mean 4 seconds.) The Keurig does not have stand-by so you will need a 4 minute heat-up time but afterward it’s the same amount of time.
