Stored beans need to be soaked before they can be cooked. This can be done by leaving the beans in water overnight or placing them in simmering water for a short period. If you choose the later method, be sure not to boil the beans, this can result in broken and lumpy bean presentation. If beans remain hard after soaking have them cool down in the freezer. The cold temperature breaks down the tough cellulose, softening the food article.

Beans are recognized in many everyday dishes like chili and refried beans along with a variety of soups. But, did you know that their use in modern day cooking has expanded to desserts? You can use your bean food storage to make delectable treats like pinto bean fudge and bean cream pie. Just remember, don’t knock it till you try it.

Dessert creations don’t mark the end of bean food fun. Soy beans are a unique, having the ability to take on the flavor of its surrounding foods. This quality allows the food processed form of the bean to be added to meat, extending the taste and mass amount of the substance. In a pulverized powder form the bean can be used as a flour substitute to enhance dense recipes like cookies and breads.
